by Christy Byrne Yates, M.S.
A book you might not know you need...
YET !
Â
Christyâs book, âBuilding a Legacy of Love: Thriving in the Sandwich Generation,â might be the one you donât know you need, yet!
Combining straightforward research and tender memoir, Christy shines a light on a challenge faced by nearly 50% of Americans â raising children while also caring for an aging parent or loved one.
This book offers insights into the unique needs of parents squeezed between two generations who need them dearly, while offering insights and mindset shifts that can lead to greater compassion, resilience and well-being.
She addresses difficult conversations and how to prepare for those, anticipatory grief experienced by family members, how to talk to children about death and dying, and the need for ruthless self-care in order to rise above the struggles.
Christy speaks from experience as a Sandwich Generation parent and as a mental health professional with over 30 years of experience working with adults and children.
Whether youâre a parent in the middle, or an aging parent yourself, âBuilding a Legacy of Love: Thriving in the Sandwich Generation,â will inspire you to have meaningful conversations.

From Online Reviews...
Ms. Yates' book is what I wish I would have had while caring for both my mother and father-in-law through their years of cancer and the decline and chaos of that time. The complications of dealing with end-of-life care in the medical, financial, and legal world while trying to parent teenagers yourself and hold down your career are daunting at best, and heartbreakingly awful at worst. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is approaching this stage of life. Read this FIRST, as hard as it is to contemplate it will help you navigate these situations. Thank you Ms. Yates for such a compassionate and comprehensive guidebook for us all.

This is a must-read book. Itâs marvelous, compassionately discussing a topic that is hard for many to talk about openly, far less admit they are living âright nowâ. Itâs also beautifully written, informative, and engaging with so many great takeaway points. As my kids become young adults and move away from home, and my parents/parents-in-law age, this book highlighted how important it is to us that we start planning for the future together. Highly recommend this book.
